Delivered sustained revenue growth.
- Built $160MM single product into $400MM product line, even while diverting original core market to build new $1B+ Creative Suite business.
- Achieved 15-year CAGR exceeding 10%—equal to Adobe's company-wide growth over the period, yet with profitability higher than any other Adobe product.
Successfully expanded product line.
- Established $100MM+ consumer business with introduction of Photoshop Elements. Careful product concept and positioning kept cannibalization of professional product below 10%.
- Delivered Adobe's first simultaneous, cross-platform product release, ahead of schedule.
- Increased retail presence worldwide by customizing approaches to margins and other policies on a regional basis. Handled first Adobe products to reach Costco and WalMart.
- Championed plan to disrupt our own flagship Photoshop software with a new product, Lightroom, designed explicitly around digital SLR (DSLR) camera workflows.
Responded nimbly and effectively to competitive threats.
- Uninterrupted 15-year market share leadership
- Neutralized low-priced Photoshop competition. Successfully diverted competitors to a new mid-range segment through the introduction of Photoshop Elements, which earned leading share in the segment and reduced price pressure on our pro product.
- Defeated Apple Aperture. Despite their first-mover advantage, used Apple’s traditional strengths against them through a public beta that positioned Lightroom as the more open and customer-driven choice. Generated 1MM+ beta downloads and became the market leader.
Influenced the industry.
- Catalyzed dramatic publishing industry shift to standards-based color management methods.
- Conceived strategy for launch of publicly documented DNG raw camera format while also negotiating with manufacturers for access to their undocumented, proprietary formats. DNG ultimately became the raw format standard for both iOS and Android.
Capitalized on market and technology disruptions.
- Successfully navigated Photoshop through multiple market disruptions, first from desktop publishing to web design, and then to digital photography.
- Reinvigorated product roadmap through tighter relationship with research labs, while also generating increased press coverage of Adobe's technology leadership.
